Air Cushion Film Utilization and Waste Recycling
What is Air Cushion Film?
Air Cushion Film is a new type of cushioning packaging material with excellent performance used in the transportation and packaging field. It is made of two layers of plastic film that are heat-sealed and wrapped with gas. Since the compressible gas enclosed in the plastic film air chamber has the functions of elastic buffering and energy absorption, it has good buffering, sound insulation, vibration resistance, and other properties.

Application of Air Cushion Film
Because of its excellent cushioning performance, Air Cushion Film is currently widely used in the field of transportation and packaging. It can package and protect fragile glass, ceramic products, electronic and optical instruments, such as cosmetics, red wine, flat-screen TVs, and other commodities as cushioning material for the inner lining of corrugated boxes, honeycomb boxes, etc.
Types of Air Cushion Film
With the rapid development of polymer materials and the Air Cushion Film industry, the types of air cushion film materials have gradually increased. According to the different performance requirements of the product and the different properties of the film, there are polyethylene single-layer film, multilayer low-density polyethylene co-extrusion PE/PE film, polyethylene and nylon composite PE/PA film, multilayer polyethylene, and Nylon co-extruded PE/PA/PE composite film, etc.

The Synthetic Material of Air Cushion Film
Air Cushion Film is a composite film made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE), nylon 6 (PA6), and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) through a co-extrusion process. The Air Cushion Film composite film is prepared and molded through a co-extrusion process. Co-extrusion composite film is formed by a one-step method using extrusion and inflation processes and two or more resins. The molding process uses multiple plastic extruders. Each extruder can only melt through one type of plastic resin. The melt is merged and extruded in the co-extrusion head through its respective runners and then blown and cooled—the process of obtaining multilayer composite film products.

Air Cushion Film's Environmental Impact
Air Cushion Film composite film is a new type of cushioning packaging material used in the field of transportation and packaging in recent years. It has the characteristics of cushioning and shock resistance. Due to its excellent cushioning performance and wide range of applications, the Air Cushion Film industry has developed rapidly. However, while the consumption of air-cushion film materials has increased significantly, a large amount of film waste has also been increased, including scraps and various waste air-cushion films generated in production, which not only causes a huge waste of resources but also causes serious environmental problems. Therefore, the recycling of discarded Air Cushion Film materials has become an urgent problem to be solved.

Treatment Method of Polymer Material Waste
The disposal methods of polymer material air cushion film waste mainly include three methods: landfill, incineration, and recycling. In our country's annual waste plastic treatment methods, landfill accounts for 91%, incineration accounts for 2%, and the recycling rate is only 7%. The waste plastic landfill has the advantages of simple treatment methods and low consumption cost. It is currently the main method of concentrated processing of waste polymer plastics in my country. With the rapid development of the polymer material industry and the increase in the consumption of polymer materials in production and life, Air cushion Film waste has increased greatly, and the landfill of waste plastics has had a serious impact on environmental sanitation.

First, because plastic waste has the characteristics of low density and large volume, it occupies a large space, and the landfill of waste takes up a large amount of arable land, resulting in waste of land resources. The long-term landfill will also cause the landfill to become a soft foundation, which will have a serious impact on the future use of the land;
Secondly, the polymer plastic waste air cushion film is difficult to degrade after being landfilled. It takes more than two hundred years for plastic waste to be completely decomposed. And a large amount of waste plastic is buried in the ground, which not only causes waste of resources, if it is long-term It cannot be degraded, and will have an impact on the ecosystem;
Third, various additives such as plasticizers and heat stabilizers added during the processing and molding of the polymer plastic air cushion film will migrate and precipitate after being buried, which will seriously pollute groundwater resources. At the same time, the landfill of waste plastics also wastes a large number of usable waste materials. Therefore, from the perspective of environmental protection, ecological system protection, and economic and social sustainable development, the landfill treatment of waste plastics cannot be fundamentally To solve the problem of recycling waste plastics, with the development of society and technology, this method will gradually decrease in future applications.
Incineration treatment refers to the method of burning high polymer materials such as air cushion film with high calorific value to release a large amount of heat energy and incineration to recover the heat energy. The heat released when the polymer material burns are basically equal to that of ordinary gasoline, kerosene, and other fuels. In addition, the volume of waste plastics is reduced a lot after burning, which reduces the space occupation.

Plastic incineration seems to be more reasonable and effective than simple landfills, but there are still many problems that need to be improved and solved. First of all, because polymer plastics contain a large number of carbon and hydrogen atoms in their molecular chains, they will not only release a large amount of CO2 gas during the incineration process, which will cause global environmental warming and cause the greenhouse effect, but also incomplete combustion will produce nitrogen oxides and HC1. , S02 and other toxic and harmful gases.
The emission of these toxic gases not only seriously affects the health of humans and other organisms but also causes harsh natural phenomena such as acid rain and acid fog, severely damages the ecosystem, and causes secondary pollution. Therefore, the incineration of polymer material waste must be equipped with a reasonable exhaust gas treatment system to prevent the emission of harmful gases. In addition, because the polymer material air cushion film is prone to coking when burned, it has higher requirements for incinerators and other equipment, which greatly increases the cost of incineration and utilization.
